On July 1, 2019, four Category III Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes became active for medical 3D printing. These codes were approved by the American Medical Association (AMA) with a specific recommendation to implement a registry designed to capture the value of image-based 3D printing. The 3D Printing Registry is designed to fulfill that need and collects anonymized 3D printing case information, in order to address questions about the clinical indications and intended uses for printed models, the source imaging, the model construction techniques and effort, the 3D printing techniques and effort, and the clinical impact of the models. Data will also be used to support a future application for Category I CPT codes.
